It is narrated by Anas (ra) that Prophet Muhammad (saw) said: "To acquire knowledge is the duty of every Muslim man and woman."
It is part of the earliest Islamic tradition starting with Aisha (ra), a great hadith scholar and one of the Umm Mumineen, that Muslim women have studied and become great scholars in their societies. They excelled not only in Islamic fiqh, but also in law, commerce, politics, medicine, literature and poetry and all other areas of learning. Education of women is part of the sunnah of the Prophet (saw), and early Islamic societies greatly benefited from the talents and knowledge of the women, including those around the Prophet (saw). A great example was his first wife Khadijah (ra), a successful business woman and the first person to accept the message of Islam as well as countless others.
Therefore, we at Khurasan fully support the education of our sisters as well as our brothers, so they can become positive contributors to their families, communities and nation. However, we understand the real concerns families have regarding co-education. At this time it is not financially feasible for us to offer completely separated classes for our female students, but as more female students enroll at Khurasan, we will be able to offer such classes in the future. Additionally, the Khurasan staff upholds a high degree of professionalism and we expect the same of our students. We work hard to create a friendly and comfortable Islamic environment for all our students, including providing separate classroom sections and studying areas with access to computers and internet for our female students so they can study and learn in ease and security. Also, in order to encourage more female students to enroll at Khurasan, we provide all of our female students a 10% discount on their tuition.
